JAMMU, June 3: Demanding immediate arrest of the absconding driver, the relatives and family members of accident victims took out a candle march here today. However, despite lapse of four days, the Police Department has failed to trace the absconding driver and his vehicle.
Large number of friends, their family members and relatives of Sourav Kumar Bali (19), son of Davinder Kumar Bali and Aman Bali (17), son of Hardev Bali, both residents of Gandhi Nagar, who were killed in a road accident opposite Asia crossing in Gandhi Nagar area, assembled at Bahu Plaza and raised slogans against the Police Department.
The protestors in the shape of a rally marched towards Nehru Market police post, alleging that police has failed to trace the accused, involved in killing of innocent youths.
They alleged that despite lapse of over four days, police has failed to trace the accused, which raises manifold questions on the lethargic approach of the Police Department to nab the accused.
The protestors asked Police Department to trace the accused at the earliest and take action against him.
A senior police official said that “we are going through CCTV footage to trace the accused, but due to late night incident, it is becoming tough to trace the vehicle”.
“CCTV cameras installed at various locations can not give a clear image during night, but we are trying our best to nab the accused”, he added.
“We have got some leads in the incident and surely the accused will be behind the bars soon”, he asserted.
As reported, Sourav Kumar Bali and Aman Bali were killed when their scooter was hit by an unknown vehicle opposite Asia crossing in Gandhi Nagar area on May 31.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the deceased to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after conducting autopsy today, the bodies were handed over to family members for last rites.
A case under relevant Sections stands registered at Gandhi Nagar police station in this regard and manhunt was launched to apprehend the absconding driver.
