Srinagar, Feb 24: The Friday following Me’raj-e-Alam was observed today across the Valley with great enthusiasm and fervor as devotees from all over thronged to major shrines to offer congregational prayers with the biggest gathering at Hazratbal.
One of the highlights of the day was the display of the relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) at the Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar. Thousands of devotees had gathered at the shrine to have a glimpse of the relic, which is believed to be a hair strand of the Prophet (SAW).
Emotional scenes were witnessed at the shrine as devotees prayed and recited verses from the Holy Quran. Many were seen shedding tears of joy and gratitude for the opportunity to see the relic.
Authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event, with heavy security deployed across the Valley. The police and paramilitary forces were seen patrolling the streets and manning the checkpoints to ensure the safety of the devotees.
Me’raj-e-Alam is considered one of the most important events in the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide. It marks the night when Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was taken on a journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to heaven, where he met with previous prophets and was bestowed with the commandments of Allah.
The congregational prayers were also witnessed at Khanyar & Sarai Bala Dastgeer Sahab shrine, Khanqah-e-Maula, and other major shrines and masjids.
The religious clerics on the occasion shed light on the teachings and lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
