Fresh weather warning issued in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A fresh weather warning has been issued in Kashmir valley, where moderate to heavy rain and snow is expected to occur at many areas in Kashmir valley from Sunday night under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance (WD).
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature has dipped considerably owing to cloudy skies in the valley.
A Divisional Administration spokesperson said here this afternoon said a fresh WD will hit Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining area and most likely affect the state from Sunday night to Tuesday.
“Under the influence of this system, moderate to heavy rain or snow is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and moderate snowfall in Ladakh, mainly Kargil district,” he said.
He said higher reaches of Kashmir and Jammu most likely to receive moderate to heavy rain or snow. “This may lead disruption of surface transportation mainly Srinagar-Jammu national highway,” he said.
The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway, connecting Ladakh region with the rest of the state, and the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting south Kashmir with Jammu, remained closed due to accumulation of snow.
The Gurez valley, which is surrounded by Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), also remained cutoff from its district headquarters due to closure of the road. (AGENCIES)
