Fresh snow avalanche warning till Tuesday in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : A fresh weather warning has been issued in avalanche prone areas in north and south Kashmir following moderate to heavy snowfall, which is likely to continue for the next two days.
The administrations of Kupwara, Baramulla and Pulwama  advised the people living in avalanche prone areas above 2500 meters not to venture out during this period.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Kumar Raju Ranjan, who is  also Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kupwara, has issued the weather warning in avalanche prone areas like Tangdhar, Machil and Keran.
“Keep cleaning the snow deposition from roof tops of the houses and bankers to avoid any untoward incident during the snowfall,” the DDMA said, adding people are also advised to temporarily evacuate from those locations which are under the line of avalanche.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla has directed all  the officers concerned to be in readiness and to activate their manpower and machinery and ensure that there is no disruption of essential services, power supply, water supply, health care services etc in the district.
Moreover, the officers concerned have also been impressed upon to establish Control Rooms and the Phone Numbers must be notified for the general public.
The District Development Commissioner has also directed  all officers concerned to keep all the requisite precautionary measures in place in order to avert any untoward incident.    Similarly, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama has also advised the people of district Pulwama not to venture in avalanche prone areas during the snowfall.
