Fresh landslides in Panchari; residents move to safer places

UDHAMPUR, Feb 9: Five months after the Saddal village tragedy, fresh landslides have been taking place regularly for last three days in Meer area of Panchari tehsil, wherefrom to save their lives residents have now moved to safer places.
As per reports, around 70 Kanals of agriculture land in Meer village has turned into fresh landslide zone where around 40 local residents have left their houses and moved to safer places.
“People in this entire tehsil are scared after the Saddal tragedy which took away 40 lives and therefore they are taking no chance. In the last four-five days nearly 70 Kanals of land has slided down in Bagda Morh area of Meer where residents of four houses left their abodes while two other houses were vacated by us to make sure that there is no loss of life”, said Ramesh Singh, Tehsildar Panchari.
” We are having sleepless nights after the teams of Geological and Mining Department, Government of India have declared certain areas here as sliding zones”, said Rajinder Singh, a resident of Meer.
A team of police and revenue officials has been deployed on the spot to keep vigil on the entire fresh sliding zones so that necessary action can be taken timely.
