Fraudster arrested, several ATM cards recovered

RAMBAN, Dec 2: Police here today has claimed to have solved several ATM fraud cases by arresting a notorious cheat.
When contacted, SSP Ramban, Anita Sharma said that Banihal police received a complaint from one Mohd Iqbal Khan of Chamalwas Banihal that he had gone to J&K Bank to withdraw some cash where one youth was already standing inside the ATM and he offered to help Khan in withdrawing cash.
“In doing so the youth tactfully changed his ATM card and later on withdrew Rs 8000 from his account.
On getting the complaint, police registered an FIR numbered 194 U/S 379/420 RPC and during investigation one suspect Imran Ahmed Sheikh son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh of Dialgam, Anantnag was rounded up and put to thorough questioning during which he admitted the crime,” the SSP said.
She also informed that on his disclosure Sheikh swapped ATM debit card was also recovered while during the search of his car more ATM cards were recovered.
She informed that the modus operandi of the accused was to stand in front of ATMs and to look for innocent people who can’t operate their cards and then offer help to them to operate the cards and in the process swap their ATM cards and later on withdraw money from their accounts.
On further questioning the accused admitted to have cheated a large number of persons in Banihal, Ramsoo and Ramban area.
Police sources informed that the accused is also involved in three FIRs of Kashmir Zone.
Police is investigating the crime.
