Four held for pilferage of iron bars meant for Govt projects

JAMMU, Dec 1: Bahu Fort police today foiled a major pilferage of iron bars meant for Government projects by arresting four persons and recovering 1390 kilograms of iron bars.
According to a police spokesperson, following information received through reliable sources regarding major pilferage of iron bars of Steel Authority of India, police teams of police station Bahu Fort led by SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Deepak Pathania and assisted by ASI Manzoor Ahmed conducted raid at Yard number 2, Narwal and found that some persons were loading iron bars in a truck bearing registration number JK02V-6067 from two truck trailers bearing registration numbers JK02AW-3210 and JK02AE-1013.
“On seeing police party, the accused tried to run away from the spot but were overpowered by the alert cops. During investigation it came to fore that the truck trailers were loaded from the depot of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Narwal and iron bars were supposed to be delivered/unloaded at different sites of Railways projects in district Ramban,” the spokesperson said.
He said on search, huge quantity of iron bars (16 mm and 25 mm) totaling 1390 kg (16 mm and 25 mm) was recovered from the truck number JK02V-6067 which was supposed to be sold in black market. All the three vehicles (two truck trailers and one truck) were seized on spot, he said, adding, a case in this connection was registered at police station Bahu Fort and all the four accused were arrested.
“The accused were identified as Inderjeet Singh alias Rinka son of Jaswant Singh of Gole Gujral, Jammu (kingpin of the crime), Satpal Singh son of Bhagu Ram of Ghagwal, Samba (driver of truck trailer number JK02AW-3210), Sikander Singh son of Kartar Singh of Lehar, Sungal, Akhnoor (driver of truck trailer number JK02AE-1013) and Krishan Singh son of Shiv Ram of Ramnagar, Udhampur (driver of truck number JK02V-6067),” he added.
The spokesperson said during investigation it came to fore that the accused used to take iron bars from the trailers after coming out from the depots of Steel Authority of India and replaced the same with the stones equivalent to the weight of stolen items and the stolen iron bars were sold in black market.
The arrest and recoveries were made under the supervision of SDPO City East Sajad Sarwar and overall supervision of SP City South Deepak Digra. further investigation of the case was going on.
