JAMMU, Oct 12: Fortis Escorts Hospital Amritsar has switched over to new technique of coronary surgery with much less pain to the patient and lesser time of recovery after the surgical procedure.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Davinder Mohan Saini (Chief Cardiac Surgeon), Fortis Escorts Hospital, Amritsar, said that Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) is a very well-known operation which is life saving procedure in patients with coronary artery disease.
He said that traditionally vein harvesting is done using open technique which requires long incision on the leg and is associated with pain, infection and problems related to wound healing, delayed mobilization of patients, etc but with new technique known as Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) a vein can be harvested through a very small incision just below the knee using the specially designed endoscope and electro-cautery.
Dr Saini said that this new technique has many advantages, as small incision is cosmetically very appealing. Adoption of this technique results in early mobilization of patient, lesser wound infections and lesser problems related to wound healing.
He said that this technique can be used in all patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) but it is beneficial in obese, female and diabetic patients, and also in those having peripheral arterial disease where wound healing is a big concern.
Dr Saini informed that Fortis Escorts Hospital Amritsar is the first hospital in the region which is offering this service and many patients have been successfully operated upon by using this technique in last one month.
Facility Director, Danish Vashist, other members of CTVS team like Dr Rajeev Vashisth, Dr Ajay Verma, Dr Anuj Tiwari and two senior anesthetists, Dr Sunila kapila and Dr Rishi Goenka were also present on the occasion.
