JAMMU, May 3: Former minister and senior Congress leader hailing from Nowshera in district Rajouri Dr Romesh Chander Sharma died in a hospital at Delhi after brief illness last night.
He was 65. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Mr Sharma, who was elected as MLA from Nowshera constituency in 2002, served as Minister of State for PHE, I&FC in PDP-Congress Government. His body was brought from Delhi today. The cremation took place at his native town Nowshera this evening. A large number of people from all walks of life including Congress functionaries attended his funeral procession and cremation.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condoled the sad demise of former minister Dr R C Sharma, who was not keeping good health for quite some time. She expressed solidarity with the bereaved family in their hour of grief.
Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad in a condolence message said that Sharma was devoted to the welfare of the people and lived an exemplary life. Azad said Dr Romesh followed the footsteps of his legendary father Late Master Beli Ram (Ex-MLA), while discharging his responsibilities as public figure.
PCC chief G A Mir and several other party leaders expressed grief over the sad demise of former minister and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Minister for CAPD, Ch Zulfkar along with PDP leader and MLC Surinder Choudhary visited the house of Dr Romesh Chander and also joined his cremation at Nowshera this evening.
