Former Minister passes away

SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Former Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Aziz Zargar passed away this morning after a prolonged illness.
He was 87 and is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters. Zargar breathed his last at his Jammu residence.
Zargar was member of the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir in 1951. However, he became Agriculture Minister in Syed Mir Qasim Government in 1972.
He, later, held the same portfolio in the PDP-Congress Coalition Government from 2002 to 2008 headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayed for first three years and Ghulam Nabi Azad next three years.
Governor condoles demise of Zargar.
Meanwhile, Governor N N Vohra condoled the sad demise of Zargar and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. He also prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has also expressed deep grief over the sad demise of former Minister. He also visited the Jammu residence of Zargar at Bathandi to personally convey his sympathy to the bereaved family. He also prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad also condoled the passing away of Zargar.
In his condolence message, Azad said, “I have learned with profound sorrow about the sad demise of Zargar, who was a veteran of J&K politics. He was a man of conviction and commitment who strived relentlessly for transforming the socio-political landscape of J&K. His contributions to public life will be written in golden letters”.
Azad said that he was a legendary political figure and votary of people’s rights. Expressing sympathies with the bereaved family, he said, “My heart goes out for the members of the bereaved family and I pray for the eternal peace of departed soul.”
