SRINAGAR, May 20: PDP leader and former MLC, Firdous Tak today claimed that cops are restricting movement of PDP leaders ahead of polls on Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat.
In a letter to DGP, R.R Swain and copied to Election Commission of India and others, Tak claimed that his party leaders were not allowed to campaign by cops in South Kashmir.
He wrote that over the past few days he was in Anantnag for campaigning for PDP and found that PDP leaders there were denied free movement.
“Our workers and supporters are not only being harassed but they are also subjected to humiliation and restrictions,” the PDP leader claimed urging the DGP to intervene and direct the cops to ensure that all political parties, including the PDP, are allowed to reach out to voters without undue hindrance.
“Elections should be a celebration of democracy, encouraging active participation from the populace,” the letter read making another claim that while certain political organizations are being given a free hand, leaders in PDP are being denied permission to campaign.
The former legislator said while the Union Government has repeatedly claimed that J&K is experiencing a peaceful and terror-free situation, things was different on ground.
Tak said that it was crucial that all the candidates are given equal opportunities to campaign freely and fairly before the polling day while maintaining security and stability.
