NEW DELHI, Aug 29: Amid speculations about former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda forming a new party after a tiff with the Congress leadership, he met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, on Thursday.
The meeting took place at Ms Gandhi’s official residence, 10 Janpath and was attended by senior party leader and Haryana in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad.
A few weeks ago, Mr Hooda had criticised the Congress leadership for the stand on Jammu and Kashmir issue.
Mr Hooda, had welcomed the government’s decision to scrap the Article 370, which allowed special status for Jammu and Kashmir, and had said his ‘party has lost its way’.
“When the government is doing something right I support them. Many of my colleagues opposed the decision. My party has lost its way, it is not the same Congress it used to be,” Mr Hooda had said at a rally in Rohtak earlier this month, signalling forming a new political outfit.
According to party sources, Mr Hooda also demanded party leadership appoint him as the state party president before the assembly election, which is due at the end of this year.
Meanwhile, the Enforc-ement Directorate had filed a chargesheet, on Monday, against Congress controlled Associated Journals Limited (AJL), senior leader Moti Lal Vora and Mr Hooda in a money laundering case, which is being probed by the agency. (UNI)
