Former CE HB Khajuria passes away, cremated

JAMMU, Feb 10: H B Khajuria, a distinguished engineer, a thinker ‘ahead of his times’, an exceptionally benevolent human being who was popularly addressed as ‘Bapuji’ by his family, friends and admirers, left for his heavenly abode after a brief illness, leaving behind a rich legacy of values and principles that were an innate part of his being. He was cremated yesterday.
Still failing to come to terms with the loss, his elder brother, Mohinder Nath Khajuria, expressed his feelings as he said, “My brother has gone from this world the same way he lived, helping and bringing smile to others. One could easily spot him in any social gathering, because of his positive energy and proactive engagement with those around him motivating them to live beyond themselves, live for others. In his demise, I have lost my best friend.”
Born on 20th October, 1935 to parents Khem Raj Khajuria and Laj Wanti Khajuria in Jammu, H B Khajuria did his schooling from Govt. Sri Ranbir Higher Secondary School and pre-engineering from GGM Science College, Jammu. Then, he moved to Aligarh Muslim University for his degree in Civil engineering which he accomplished in 1957. After clearing prestigious J&K Public Services Commission Exam, he was posted as Assistant Engineer in Irrigation Division, Akhnoor.
Projects in Irrigation department and public health engineering works being his forte, H B Khajuria pioneered and was entrusted with the responsibility of commissioning of many important and vital projects including New Pratap canal Akhnoor, Tawi canal irrigation lift project, Ujh Barrage Ravi Tawi irrigation complex to mention a few.He also formulated an ambitious drinking water shemes having intake from river Chenab consisting of multiple pumping stations to cater to the needs for coming decades for Jammu City This blue print is still being actively followed .
