Forester, Guard suspended; probe ordered

JAMMU, Sept 10: A Forester and Beat Guard were placed under suspension while a three members inquiry committee was constituted to probe the matter regarding felling of green trees and recovery of 122 Deodar timber sleepers in Bani Range of Billawar Forest division.
Official sources said that Block Forest Officer Bani Umesh Charak and Guard of the concerned beat Salim Altaf have been placed under suspension by the Conservator of Forests B M Sharma. While Charak has been attached to the office of  CF at Jammu, the Guard of the concerned beat …..has been attached to the DFO office at Billawar till further orders.
A three-member inquiry committee led by Range Officer, Basohli  Narinder Verma has been constituted to probe into the matter after visiting spot and recording statements of the villagers of the area and other officials concerned and submit a report. One week time has been given to the committee members. Two Forester from the other Forest Ranges will assist the RO Bani in the inquiry.
It may be recalled that 122 timber sleepers had been seized by the FPF men assisted by some Territorial Forest officials from Bani Forest Block about a week back. Some green trees of the Deodar had been felled in the area. The locals of the area alleged involvement of the concerned field staff members including the Block Officer, against whom already an inquiry was initiated for massive felling in the area. The CF Jammu East also sought the explanation of the Range Officer, Bani Tara Chand into the matter.
