JAMMU, Sept 25: To explore new ways of making our cities work better in the future through innovative uses of technology and collaboration between the public and private sectors, Ford Motor Company hosted the `City of Tomorrow’ symposium in New Delhi, where Ford Smart Mobility initiatives were discussed.
The City of Tomorrow reflects Ford’s long-term vision to help make people’s lives better by changing the way the world moves with world-class vehicles, mobility services and a wider range of transportation solutions. As part of this strategy, Ford recently partnered with the city of Indore, signing a memorandum of understanding to work together to address their most pressing transportation issues.
“The transportation models that exist around the world today simply will not work tomorrow. Ford has an aspiration – that urban transport systems will be free from congestion, rich in choices, and provide mobility for all,” said Rajendra Rao, CEO, Ford Smart Mobility LLC. “Breakthrough solutions are needed to achieve this. Getting there will require a leap in our collective thinking, working with cities and partners who are agents of change,” he added.
Understanding that cities need solutions that help ease the critical issues they face today, Ford has already launched several new smart mobility initiatives in India like Car sharing in partnership with Zoomcar; Hack & Roll initiative, the vision of the ‘City of Tomorrow’ where everyone has universal and safe access to mobility.
Launched in partnership with Devpost in January, the innovative mobility initiative for the city of Indore drew an enthusiastic response, receiving over 40 tech solutions from software developers in India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Morocco, and Romania.
In another initiative Sustainable Mobility Project (SMP2.0), Ford came together with Indore city authorities to bring out the Sustainability, Mobility Project Report (SMP2.0) which developed a multimodal mobility roadmap. With collective contribution of city Indore, WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development) and representative of Ford India,  Sustainable mobility solutions were delivered to extend access to safe, reliable and comfortable mobility for all, whilst aiming for affordability, zero traffic accidents, low environmental impact, and reduced demand on energy and time.
