JAMMU, June 14:  Up in arms against the introduction of two-year B Ed Programme in Jammu University from the forthcoming session, the Forum of Recognized Colleges of Education (FORCE) has termed the move discriminatory and urged the Government for relaxation on the pattern of Kashmir.
“If the recommendations of Justice Verma Report for two-year scheme of introducing B Ed Programme have been relaxed in Kashmir what is the hurry of implementing the same in Jammu from this session even as both the universities have same Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor with similar statutes?” asked   S Harbans Singh, former Minister and president of the FORCE, while addressing a press conference, here today.
Terming the move highly discriminatory, he said that two-year B Ed Programme would be detrimental for Jammuites who will loose one year upon their counterpart in Kashmir Division.  “Decision taken by the officers at the helm of affairs to implement Justice Verma Report (JVR) regarding introduction of two year B Ed Programme in Jammu province without taking cognizance of other issues is a step to wither away this professional course and we urge upon the Government for  relaxation at least for one year on the pattern of Kashmir province and meanwhile B Ed degree be made mandatory for the appointment of teachers in teaching profession as is prevalent in other States of our country,” he said.
Gambhir Singh Charak, member of FORCE and vice-president Dogra Sadar Sabha, who was also present in the press conference, alleged that the Government was intentionally triggering a divide between Kashmir and Jammu on all issues, including education, and introduction of 2-year B Ed Programme in Jammu but relaxation to Kashmir was the latest attempt in this regard. “We will not allow the Government to discriminate with Jammu youth, who are going to be ultimate sufferer of this 2-year B Ed Programme,” he said and added that future course of action of the FORCE would be announced at appropriate time.
Others, who were  present in the press conference, included  Kuldeep Wahi,  Manmeet Singh, Ashok Kumar Khajuria, Hari Singh Chib, M S Katoch, T M  Tariq, S K Puri and  Arun Kumar.
