Food Safety team conducts Navratra special drive

JAMMU, Apr 12: Food Safety wing of Drug and Food Control Organization today conducted a special drive against adulteration ahead of the start of 9-Day Navratra Festival.
The drive was conducted outside Bawe Wali Mata Temple during which a team headed by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety (Municipal Limits, Jammu) Dr Parvesh Kumar inspected the vendors dealing with food items including sweets.
The team lifted samples of sweets for analysis and also recommended five food vendors for challan under unhygienic and insanitary conditions. The Food Safety officers also lifted samples of food products used during fasting i.e. Drehu Atta, Singara Atta, Sabu Daana and Ghee, and sent the same to lab for analysis.
Moreover, the team also provided awareness amongst the food vendors to keep their premises neat and clean, keep the infrastructure under hygienic conditions, not to use old news papers for serving food to the customers, maintain their personal hygiene at all levels, to keep the drainage system neat and clean in order to avoid cross contamination. In addition to all this, they were suggested to use mask, caps, and aprons, and to follow the COVID protocol.
Food Safety Officers Pervaiz Chowdhary, Rajesh Jamwal and Rajkumar educated food vendors about basic hygiene practices and good manufacturing practices. They were also directed to follow the norms of FSS Act 2006 and COVID preventive measures in future too.
The team also destroyed rotten tomatoes and Soya chunks prepared under unhygienic conditions and pieces of old news papers being used by the vendors for serving purposes.
