SRINAGAR, May 11: A food outlet near Polo View market here was closed today after the Food Safety Team found “poor hygienic conditions” and evidence of cockroach infestation during an inspection.
Officials said the Food Safety Team took cognizance of a video posted online and inspected the concerned food establishment, identified as Lal Sheikh & Sons, where violations of Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 were detected.
The inspection was triggered by a viral social media video showing a cockroach in biryani.
During the inspection, the team found evidence of cockroach infestation on the premises and observed that the food business operator had failed to carry out mandatory pest control measures required under the Act, officials said.
They added that samples of prepared food were also collected for analytical examination.
“In view of these violations, the establishment has been closed and a challan for violating various provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act will be submitted before the competent court,” officials said.
The department also issued a warning to food business operators across the city, directing them to ensure regular pest control and maintain hygiene standards as mandated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
