Focus on Teacher Subject Ratio

Sir,
Education has got top priority in independent India. The  State of Jammu & Kashmir is also making tireless efforts to give quality education to students. Majority of students enroll themselves in Government schools. Practically, we see that the  authorities focus on teacher student ratio while making adjustments /deployments. This approach of focusing on teacher student ratio isn’t in tandem with the intention of providing quality education which includes not only making one literate but also giving opportunities to talented students to exel in co-curricular activities. In case of primary schools, teacher student ratio doesn’t cause any harm but for middle and high schools it is full of glitches. Suppose, we have 45 and 90 students in two middle schools respectively. In both these cases number of subjects to be taught is the same. But while posting staff, if we go by criteria of teacher student ratio both these schools will get different number of teachers. Besides, there are no visible efforts to provide language (Hindi/Urdu etc) specific teachers in each and every school wherever needed. This laids foundation for deterioration of quality  education. Schools with low enrollment get less staff compared with those having high enrollment. But both these require equal man-hours for teaching of all the subjects leave aside the co-curricular activities . To make sure that quality of education doesn’t get deteriorated,  focus should be shifted to teacher subject ratio from teacher student ratio. For this to happen required number of posts should be created and advertised  because as long as we have manpower shortage authorities won’t be able to focus on teacher subject ratio.
