JAMMU, Jan 30: Demanding release of their pending salary for months, the Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHWs) in Health and Family Welfare Department held a day-long dharna and demonstration at the premises of Directorate Health, here today.
The protesting FMPHWs raised slogans for release of their salary and threatened to intensify their protest. They also urged the Governor to personally intervene into the matter and ensure release of their salary.
The protest dharna was organized under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation and Jammu Kashmir Female Multipurpose Health Workers Welfare Association.
While addressing the dharna, provincial president of the Association, Babli Sharma said that FMPHWs were without salary for the last 10-12 months and their families were virtually at the verge of starvation. She urged the Government to release funds under Account Head 221 Family Welfare as early as possible and also a permanent solution of this chronic problem of delay in disbursement of salaries.
The protest dharna was also addressed by the Medical Employees Federation president Sushil Sudan who urged the Governor N N Vohra to personally intervene into the matter and ensure release of FMPHWs’ salary.
Others who addressed the protest dharna, included Meena Devi, Nancy Bhan, Urmil, Neelam Kumari, Kamla Devi, Rajesh Bala, Mamta Devi, Rekha Rani and Nirmal Kour.
The technical staff of SHTO Nagrota, led by Surinder Pal Singh, who are also without salary, too joined the dharna.
Reports from Poonch and Rajouri said that similar protest dharnas were held there.
