FM Channel – 2

In a function at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the distant inauguration from here of new FM stations at Kargil, Drass, Tsuru and Padam. This is part of Prasar Bharti programme of setting up 839 new FM stations in private sector in 290 cities of the country, and Jammu and Kashmir is getting priority in this programme. The licence fee for private channels in J&K will be much reduced in comparison to other states. The rental fee for the private parties of Jammu and Kashmir will also be half as compared to others. This is a welcome step and Radio Kashmir-Jammu and Doordarshan Srinagar/Jammu deserve appreciation of working in difficult conditions but not defaulting in bringing awareness and entertainment to the people in remote and inaccessible parts of the state. Quality-wise also, Radio Kashmir/Jammu has been putting out programmes that have become popular not only with the people in the State and border areas but also across the LoC. It is commendable that our official media channels reach the people who are divergent in many respects like ethnicity, language, culture, life style etc. The electronic media has immensely contributed to national integrity and sovereignty. J&K has had enviable share in that process.
