JAMMU, July 16: ‘Krishan Singh Memorial Welfare Committee Urlian’ tehsil and district Udhampur, under the patronage of its president SSP (Retd) Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, paid floral tributes to ‘Veer Chakra’ awardee late Subedar Krishan Singh Jamwal resident of village Urlian at place Shahidi Sthal near PS Udhampur, who laid his life on intervening night of July 15 and 16, 1948, while evicting Pakistani army from illegally occupied army post in Poonch sector.
He sacrificed his life along with Sepoy Bua Ditta and for their valiant role both were conferred with second highest gallantry award’ Veer Chakra’ by Government of India in 1948 in 1950.
On the occasion, add SP Udhampur, retired Col Juneja along with his team including Rtd Major Sharma, Sub Krishan Chand, Baan Singh and many more, respectable citizens, ex army officials and relatives of Martyrs including Jagdish Singh, Bhag Singh, Balwan Singh, Pritam Singh, Shamsher Singh, Karan Singh laid floral wreaths to commemorate the memory of the martyr.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the Committee Mahadeep Singh Jamwal highlighted the achievements of the martyrs. The martyr Major Narain Singh Veer Ckakra awardee of 1971 war and Captain Tushar Mahajan were also remembered by the committee on the occasion. The Committee president on the occasion appealed the district administration to finalize the commitments of naming conspicuous chowks of the Udhampur on the name of Martyrs and the raising of their statues and to apply similar measures of the belt force personnel who have laid their lives for the sake of the country hailing from the District.
