Floral tribute paid to Bhagat Amar Nath

JAMMU, June 1: Bahujan Samaj Party and Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath and Jagan Nath Charitable Trust paid tribute to great social activist Bhagat Amar Nath on his 53rd Balidan Divas today.
BSP observed death anniversary of Shaheed Amar Nath, a prominent Dalit leader of the underprivileged class at RS Pura today. A function to pay tributes to great Dalit leader was held under the chairmanship of Darshan Rana, BSP general secretary.
It was organised by leaders of Jammu South Assembly segment where large number of party workers and the people from all walks of life attended to pay homage to Shaheed Amar Nath who sacrificed his entire life to serve the poor and underprivileged and depressed class of society.
He fought relentlessly for the rights of the poor masses to make them aware about their rights of social equality as laid down in our Constitution. Darshan Rana spoke at length about life and contribution of Shaheed Amar Nath particularly his long struggle and fight for reservation for the poor and underprivileged people from SC/ST.
The other prominent BSP leaders Hari Chand Thappa, Raja Singh, Janak Raj, Dr Harjeet Singh, Jawahar Singh Labana, Tarsem Lal, Malook Singh,Tara Chand, Madan Pal and others also spoke on the occasion.
BSP appealed the LG administration to consider their genuine demand for declaring holiday on his death anniversary to pay a token of respect in the honour of great Dalit leader of Jammu and Kashmir.
Members of Shaheed Bhagat Amar Nath and Jagan Nath Charitable Trust also paid floral tributes to Bhagat Amarnath during function at Shaheed Amar Nath Smark Park opposite Civil Secretariat here today.
Former Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, Ex MLA Ashwani Sharma, Surinder Bhagat, Anil Masoom Corporator, Sham Lal, Chand Bhagat, Bansi Lal Choudhary, Rashpal Digra, Gian Chand Dogra and others apprised that Shaheed Bhagat dedicated his life for social cause exclusively for downtrodden people of J&K.
They elaborated that during 1970 there was a great resentment among Dalits Samaj for denial of reservation rights by unjust and hostile state government, despite been implemented for SC, ST, ex-serviceman, handicapped people in Central services and in all other states after the Constitution of India came into force on Jan 26, 1950 with great efforts of Dr BR Ambedkar.
Bhagat Amarnath took very serious note of the malafide intention of the state government and intensified his non-stop agitation in entire Jammu province and when his demand was not accepted he took an extreme step and sat on fast unto death on May 21, 1970 at Amarnath Samark park in front of civil secretariat and achieved martyrdom on June 1, 1970 and become martyr for reservation.
Bhagat Mahasabha J&K Unit also observed Shahidi Divas of Bhagat Amar Nath under the leadership of its president, Mohinder Bhagat. The members paid floral tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Amar Nath and recalled his martyrdom for seeking reservation for downtrodden members of the society.
