Srinagar July 8: Flood victims from Chattabal area have threatened to hold a protest on Eid-ul-Adha if the Government fails to release their compensation.
The residents were designated for relief since they had incurred severe damage in 2014, but despite the passage of nearly seven years and court directions, they have not received compensation.
The victims told Excelsior that they are planning to organize a protest over the non-implementation of a court decision that was made in their favour in December 2021. “The administration’s refusal to release the flood relief is illegal and demonstrates how committed it is to the development of Srinagar and its residents,” a victim said.
He said that the district administration handled the problems of the victims in a rude manner. “Due to this unnecessary procedure delay, we are forced to adopt the path of agitation, “he said.
The victims claimed that since Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole, approved their application, the district administration has been holding up the process. “For the past five years, district officials have made them walk from table to table,” the victims said.
The victims claimed to have taken loans from banks and creditors, demanded the release of the outstanding payments. “We request that the funds be released by the authorities prior to Eid-Ul-Adha, which will provide relief and make it possible for people to celebrate Eid,” the victims said.
