POONCH, Jan 24: The tri-colour was found placed ‘upside down’ on an official vehicle of administrative officer while he was taking a salute to the participating contingents during full dress rehearsal here today.
The national flag was ‘disrespected’ and it was a callous approach by the authorities concerned towards their professional duty, an official said.
However, an eyewitness said that the tri-colour was defaced on pilot vehicle in reverse direction, appearing to others as ‘upside down’.
He said senior civil and police officers were also present at the venue during the parade rehearsal.
“It amounts to sentence and fine under Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. It is an Act, which prohibits desecration of or insult to the country’s national symbol, including the National Flag, The Constitution, and the National Anthem”, a senior official said.
He said that any such offence shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term, which shall not be less than one year.
Meanwhile, authorities in the district Poonch remained tight-lipped over the incident.
