Urging J&K LG in this regard, Sharma said, in J&K Police Act, the minimum and maximum age limit for the post of Sub Inspector in Police is 18 years and 28 years respectively and the required qualification is graduation.
He said, normally a candidate completes graduation at the age of 21 years to become eligible and if the vacant posts are advertised every year then a candidate gets six to seven chances of competing in the selection process.
Sharma said that majority of States and UTs conduct the selection for various posts including those of Sub Inspectors every year and accordingly a candidate gets 5 to 6 chances to compete before becoming over-aged but in J&K the selection process for various posts including those of Sub Inspectors are not advertised every year and particularly for the post of Sub Inspectors, selection is conducted after 6 to 7 years, so majority of candidates get only one chance to compete before becoming over-aged and in few cases candidates not even get a single chance.
After Supreme Court issued directions, the erstwhile J&K State framed rules as per which the available vacancies shall be referred to J&K SSRB by all administrative departments every year so that an eligible candidate gets 5-6 chances of competition before becoming over-aged.
Sharma further said that the last Sub Inspector selection was conducted in 2016 and a period of five years has passed during which many candidates have crossed age limit because of administration fault.
He thanked the LG for giving two years relaxation to the candidates in recruitment of Sub Inspectors and urged him to come to rescue of aggrieved candidates by giving them 5 years relaxation.
