Five militants of ISJK arrested, vehicles seized for effecting Srinagar attack

SRINAGAR: Five uncategorized militants of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) involved in May 20 attack in which two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in Srinagar outskirts were martyred were arrested, a police spokesman said here Friday afternoon.

Four vehicles-two ambulances, a motorcycle and a scooter-used for the attack have also been seized, the spokesman said. He said the militant attack took place on May 20, 2020, in which two BSF jawans of 37 Batallion were martyred.

He said police registered an FIR under various section of IPC, various sections of Arms Act  and various sections  of ULAP Act of Police Station Soura. Police after sustained investigation  arrested five uncategorized militants of ISJK who helped in transporting, logistics, planning and executing the attack.

He said during further investigation, 4 vehicles, including two private ambulances functioning at SKIMS , a bike and a scooty were retrieved.  Accordingly approval for seizure of the above vehicles was sought from the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh today and the vehicles were seized.

He said the ambulance was used to transport the militants from Bijbehara to Pandach, Srinagar. Bike  and Scooty were used to carry out the attack and escape after looting of weapons from the injured jawans. Ambulance was used to transport the militants back to Bijbehara from Srinagar.

Furthermore, categorized militants of ISJK involved in the attack have also been neutralized in two separate encounters at Zadibal, Srinagar and Hatigam, Bijbehara and looted weapons of BSF jawans have also been recovered. The militants were identified as Aijaz Ahmad Rah, Shahi Rasool Shalbaf, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Mujeeb Shafi Ganie and Jibran Riyaz. (AGENCIES)
