Five held with heroin, contraband tablets in Jammu region

JAMMU, June 4: Police today claimed they have arrested five alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Jammu, Reasi and Ramban districts and recovered heroin (chitta) and contraband tablets from their possession.
In Jammu district, a team of Janipur Police Station apprehended one Sumit Dhar of Butta Nagar, Janipur, and recovered 6.50 grams of heroin from his possession during a naka checking operation.
Accordingly, he was booked in case FIR number 80/2026 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Janipur.
In Reasi district, a team of Police Station Katra arrested two alleged drug peddlers, identified as Rakesh Kumar of Nagrota and Manjeet Kaur of Amritsar, during naka checking near Matyal.
Police recovered a total of 3.9 grams of heroin from their possession. Both accused were found involved in previous NDPS cases. They were booked in case FIR number 169/2026 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Katra.
Meanwhile, in Ramban district, police arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations at Sangaldan and Nashri.
At Sangaldan, police recovered a heroin-like substance from one Mohammad Iqbal of Barakund, Gool, leading to registration of FIR number 29/2026 at Police Station Gool.
In another operation at Nashri, police recovered 80 Buprenorphine and Naloxone tablets concealed in a vehicle driven by one Tanveer Hussain of Chanderkote.
He was booked in case FIR number 33/2026 registered at Police Station Batote.
Police said investigations are underway in all cases to identify the source and wider network involved in drug trafficking.
