JAMMU, Aug 27: Five-day Mime Festival and Workshop commenced here today at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries.

Organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu the major attraction of this unique event is Padamshree Niranjan Goswami of Indian Mime Theatre, Kolkata who is a living legend of the art of Mime and will be training the young aspirants of Mime art during the course of the Workshop.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest who appreciated the initiatives of the Department of Students Welfare for bringing rarest learning occasions for the students. Earlier welcoming the august gathering, the Dean Students Welfare Prof Satnam Kaur dwelt in detail about the vision of the department and its new initiatives aimed at providing best of the training and performance opportunities under the professional guidance of national level artists and great Gurus of arts.
Regional Director ICCR Jammu & Kashmir Balwant Thakur while speaking on the occasion described about the mandate of ICCR which focuses the initiatives aimed at bringing nations together through cultural and intellectual exchanges. Introducing the visiting world personality of Mime art, Balwant Thakur said that Padamshree Niranjan Goswami is an accomplished Indian Mime artist and stage director, credited by many with pioneering the art form of Mime in India. He is the founder of Indian Mime Theatre, the pioneering institution of the art of Mukhabhinaya (silent acting). He is a visiting professor at the National School of Drama (NSD) and many other International theatre institutions.
The participants who attended the inaugural session included Gauri Thakur, Neerja Bharti, Sandeep Dogra, Shivansh, Rahul Kumar, Kajal Sharma, Riya Sharma, Dixit Sharma, Shivam Singh, Ankush, Subhagya Pargal, Rajat Salgotra, Sakul Kharka, Kumar Saksham, Abhi Bargotra, Bhavna Sharma, Asma Ayoub, Ankita Yadav, Sunny Singh, Sahil Saini, Sunny Parihar, Diksha Andotra, Manik Aggarwal, Mukul Sharma, Mahikshit Singh, Ankit Sharma, Vrinda Sharma, Saomit Sharma, Varsha Sharma, Sameena Kousar, Dheeraj Mahajan, Puneet Kaur, Chahukeshi, Ashish Parihar and Kanav Chopra.
The programme was very ably conducted and coordinated by Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor University of Jammu and vote of thanks was presented by Prof S. K. Pandita Chairman Campus Cultural Committee.
