Fisheries Deptt hut torched in Shopian

Srinagar, Nov 13: The miscreants torched a Fisheries Department hut in South Kashmir district of Shopian today while making announcements against holding of Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE) examinations in parts of district.
Sources said that miscreants torched Fisheries Department quarter housing office and residence of Assistant Director in Alyalpora Shopian this evening. They said that the fire tenders of Fire and Emergency Depart-ment reached the spot to douse the flames but not before the building was damaged in the fire.
Sources further said that miscreants made announcement at Nagbal, Chitrgam and Safnagri areas of Zainapora in Shopian district asking students not to sit in the BOSE examinations of 12th and 10th standard being held from Monday and Tuesday respectively.
They asked the people to block the roads and students not to appear in the exams and employees not to attend the exam duties. However, police said that they have made sufficient arrangements for the security of students and staff.
In the meantime, heavy movement of private vehicles, mini-buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis as well pedestrians was seen in civil line and uptown areas of the city.
Hundreds of vendors had set up their stalls in Lal Chowk area and large numbers of shoppers were also seen buying winter clothes. In Old City, hundreds of security forces personnel were deployed in five police station areas of MR Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Rainawari and Khanyar – since early morning to prevent any violence.
In Old City, there was however civilian movement without any disruption.  Private vehicles could also be seen plying. The vehicles on inter-district roads including passenger cabs’ were seen plying smoothly. The movement of passenger vehicles was observed on many civil lines routes.
A Police spokesman said with markets coming back to buzzing activity, the situation remained peaceful and under control across the valley till filing of this report. “No untoward incident was reported from any part of the valley during the day”, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said: “Banks and shops witness huge rush while huge number of vendors continued normal activity in the busy markets of Srinagar city as well in other towns of the valley.”
“There was increased movement of transport  vehicles which were seen plying on the city roads as also in different towns and villages of the valley. Apart from private vehicles in huge numbers, minibuses, auto rickshaws and inter district cabs plied  normally. Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure security deployments was made on some vulnerable points to prevent any untoward incident”, the spokesman added.
