First high level meeting of PDP after demise of Mufti in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A high-level meeting of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), first after the death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was held here this evening, party sources said.

The meeting, being held under the command of president Mehbooba Mufti, was attended by Members of Parliament, Legislatures and other senior party functionaries. It assumes significance as the party has to take a decision about the continuation of alliance with the BJP and formation of new government in the state, which is under the Governor’s Rule, following the demise of Sayeed in AIIMS, New Delhi on January 7.

Ms Mufti has declined to take oath as Chief Minister, saying the chair can wait, but not the mourning of her father. She had made it clear that she will take any decision on the issue only after the Chaharum, fourth day Fateha of Sayeed, which was today.

Senior PDP leader and party MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig has said that there should be no pressure on Mehbooba. “Let us give her the time she needs to come out from the mourning,” he said. About the alliance with BJP, he said it (alliance) was between the two parties for six years. However, he immediately added that in politics, anything can happen. (AGENCIES)
