JAMMU, July 6: Terming unprovoked firing by Pakistan on borders a sheer desperation on its part, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said that Pakistan can’t digest the changing scenario in Kashmir where a discernible change in ground situation is visible.
Talking to reporters here today at the side lines of a Party function at Trikuta Nagar, held in connection with 114th birth anniversary of veteran politician and founder president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Dr Nirmal Singh said that Pakistan is perturbed over the heavy influx of Amarnath pilgrims and increasing rush of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims and in the sheer desperation it resorted to border firing to disturb peace in the State.
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharief’s proposed meeting at SCO Summit in Russia, Dr Singh said India wants peace with neighbouring country but the intentions of Pak Government are not clear and it is unpredictable.
Dr Singh who earlier addressed a function in connection with unveiling the statue of Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee at newly constructed Party Office at Trikuta Nagar said J&K is the integral part of India and no body will be allowed the challenge the historical accession of the State with rest of the country. Referring to coalition with PDP, Dr Singh said the coalition in the J&K is not an ideological alliance but an alliance for good governance. We are committed to good governance, development of the State and eradication of corruption from public life but at the same time there will be no compromise on national interests’’, he added.
He reiterated that on setting up of separate AIIMS in Jammu the Union Government will take a decision soon and its announcement will be made as per promise.
The Deputy Chief Minister however questioned the silence on the part of NC and Congress as to why AIIMS project of 2004 was diluted by UPA Government during its rule.
He said for the first time after independence the Jammu is feeling empowered and we are committed for equal treatment to this region in all the matters and at all levels.
He said the coalition has initiated a number of development projects for the State and Jammu has been given its due share. He announced that the coalition is working to make Jammu an independent tourist destination, which will attract people form outside the State and also generate employment.
He said the multi storey parking in Jammu city will be setup to ease the traffic congestion and both the banks of river Tawi will be developed on the pattern of Sabarmati river in Gujarat. He announce that work on artificial lake has been accelerated for its early completion. Besides the Government has plans to construct and develop underground markets in Parade and Gandhi Nagar on the pattern of Palika Bazar Delhi.
Dr Singh also announced that water sports facilities will be provided in Ranjit Sagar lake and Baglihar Project. The Government has announced a special package for further development of the famous Patnitop tourist destination, which will also attract more tourists. He also announced that a Yoga Centre of international level will be set up at Mantalai.
The statue of Dr Mookerjee was unveiled on the occasion by BJP State President & MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Dr. Nirmal Singh, National secretary BJP Farooq Khan, former  Union MoS Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Trust Chairman & MLC Ashok Khajuria, State general secretary (Org) Ashok Kaul, Minister of Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga, Gandhi Nagar MLA Kavinder Gupta, Jammu District President Rajesh Gupta (MLA) and other senior leaders.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, in his address said that the people of the State got rid of permit system due to the sacrifice of Dr. Mookerjee. Numerous activists and martyrs also contributed in achieving this. He said that the dream of Dr. Mookerjee is still incomplete and each one of us has to work towards achieving the same. He expressed hope that the party activists will adopt the principles and ideology of great ideologues like Dr. Mookerjee in their lives.
Farooq Khan said that he had been associated with Jan Sangh since student life as he was impressed by the nation-centric approach and ideology of Dr. Mookerjee and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya and would continue to inspire others.
Former Union Minister Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta recalled his days of association during agitation with Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee. He said that this great leader laid down his life for a noble cause and our real tribute is only to take pledge to complete unfinished task left by him.
Ashok Khajuria demanded an independent probe into circumstances which led to the death of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee in a jail in Srinagar adding that the truth should be made public about the mysterious death. He further said that the martyrdom of Dr. Mookerjee has left marks in the heart of nationalist people of Jammu & Kashmir.
Ashok Kaul spoke on life of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and various incidents related to this leader.
Kavinder Gupta and Chander Prakash Ganga also paid tributes to Dr Mookerjee.
Proceedings of the function were conducted by State general secretary Munish Sharma and vote of thanks was presented by Gandhi Nagar Mandal President Tarsem Choudhary.
