Fire incidents

Sir,
Over the  past few days, there have been many incidents of fire across the country, which have  caused widespread damage taking a huge toll of human lives, besides burning property worth crores of rupees.More than a hundred pilgrims were killed and about four hundred injured in a devastating fire reportedly caused by unauthorised  display of fire crackers stored in the 100-year old historic Puttingal Devi Temple Complex in Kerala. Then, standing crops spread over hundreds of acres of land have been destroyed by fire in various regions. There have also been reports of all the houses in the whole villages being engulfed in fire and  jute mill being burnt in fire. Besides, forest fires cause a lot of damage to the forests killing many animals and  destroying wildlife. All these incidents prove that fire is a good servant but a bad master. So far the fire incidents caused due to the display of crackers is concerned,we have a habit of bursting fire crackers in large numbers on social and religious occasions and it is believed that celebrations are incomplete without the use of fireworks. Little do we  realize how this habit of ours can lead to big incidents ,affecting lives of some people to such an extent that they never recover from their disabilities or the shock of their dear ones.
Thus, there is need to take measures to create awareness in the people about the harmful effects of celebrating occasions with firecrackers.Fire safety precautions must be observed at home, workplaces and at the time of celebration of occasions. People ought to be enlightened to observe precautions to avoid fire incidents by keeping inflammable materials away from fire, bursting crackers in open fields, checking electrical wires periodically etc. to avoid loss of life and property due to fire incidents.Last but not least we ought not to smoke or burst crackers in forest to prevent forest fires.
Yours etc….
