MENDHAR, June 2: The forest belt of Jangal Ghani forest Compartment No 200 near LoC in Mankote Sector caught fire at 7.30 pm today and till last reports came in it has engulfed vast forest area.
The Gujjar and Jat Bastis living in the periphery of the forest area have become panicky as there was no one from Forest Department including the Forest Protection Force in the area to control the devastating fire.
The people of these bastis had left their houses apprehending that the fire may not engulf their locality.
The SDM Mendhar Shafiq Ahmed said that he is in contact with Forest Department and all efforts will be made to send the team to the area to control the fire.
He said efforts will also be made to send fire tenders to the area in case there was proper connectivity of the road.
