RAJOURI, May 18: A car parked on the main road in Qila Darhal area of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district suddenly caught fire.
According to preliminary information, the blaze reportedly started due to an explosion, due to suspected short- circuit in the vehicle’s battery, and within moments the entire car was engulfed in flames. The fire also spread to the nearby forest area, creating panic in the surroundings.
Reports said that the ill-fated, i20 car belonged to Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Jammu, who had gone to Qila Darhal to visit his relatives. While returning, smoke suddenly started coming out of the vehicle and within a short time the car was completely engulfed in flames. However, the owner managed to come out safely in time, and no loss of life was reported.
As soon as the incident was reported, fire tenders rushed to the spot and after considerable efforts brought the fire under control. A portion of the nearby forest area was also affected by the flames, but the fire spreading in the forest was extinguished in time with the help of fire tenders.
Police and the concerned departments are currently investigating the matter and trying to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.
