NEW DELHI, June 9: Twenty newborns were shifted to nearby medical facilities after a fire broke out at a hospital in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area in the early hours of Friday, officials said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said the blaze was reported at the Nest Newborn and Child Hospital in Vaishali Colony.
According to the fire department, they received information about the fire at 1.35 am following which nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused by 2.25 am.
However, no casualty was reported. The hospital had 20 newborns, all of whom were shifted from the first floor of the building to nearby hospitals, the DCP said.
Preliminary enquiry revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit on the ground floor, Vardhan said. The fire spread to the basement, damaging some furniture items, he added. (PTI)
