JAMMU, May 14: Police have registered an FIR against a social media page for allegedly circulating provocative and inflammatory content related to a sensitive issue reported from a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said.
According to the police, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Officials said that provocative and inflammatory videos and content were allegedly uploaded and circulated through the social media page ‘Udhampur Awaaz’ on Instagram, which had the potential to disturb public peace, communal harmony and law and order.
They said the content was found circulating despite an earlier advisory issued by Udhampur Police, cautioning the public against sharing or forwarding any unverified, misleading or provocative material on social media platforms.
The advisory had warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators under relevant provisions of law.
The police have once again appealed to portals and the general public to refrain from spreading rumours and to rely only on official and authenticated information, officials added. (Agencies)
