JAMMU, Jan 1: In a significant move, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has granted the approval for the establishment of the inaugural Finger Print Bureau in J&K Police, a pivotal initiative to enhance law enforcement capabilities in countering terrorism and crimes within the Union Territory.
Following a series of directives issued by the Administrative Council under the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor, Finance Department and Police Headquarters, the Home Department has also given its assent for the creation of 73 positions within the Finger Print Bureau.
As per an order issued in this context, the Bureau will be headed by a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) level officer, supported by an SP, two DySPs, 7 Inspectors, 22 Sub-Inspectors, 7 Head Constables, 28 Selection Grade Constables, along with specialized roles including one Inspector (M), one Inspector (S), one Sub-Inspector (M), one Sub-Inspector (S), and one Head Constable (M).
As per reports, the Finger Print Bureau will play a pivotal role in aiding law enforcement agencies by conducting thorough criminal record checks. This will involve comparing fingerprints found at crime scenes with the existing database, facilitating the identification of suspects, and establishing connections between various criminal and terrorist activities.
The Bureau’s responsibilities extend to maintaining a comprehensive and secure database of fingerprint records, ensuring meticulous organization, indexing, and regular updates. This proactive approach aims to enable swift and accurate retrieval of information whenever required for investigative purposes.
Simultaneously, the Government has also granted approval for the augmentation of manpower across different categories for the Police Headquarters.
The directive includes the creation of key positions such as one SP, 2 DySPs, 3 Inspectors, 4 Sub-Inspectors, 7 each of ASI and Head Constable in the Executive Cadre and 7 posts of Inspectors (M), 6 of Inspectors (S), 3 of Sub-Inspectors (M), 2 of ASIs (M), and 8 of Head Constables (M) in the Ministerial Cadre.
