JAMMU, June 8: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that the field of Drama, particularly Radio Dramas, play an important role in overall personality development resulting into achievements of life.
He was speaking as chief guest of the function at script enactment of two Radio Plays, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, here today.
Dr Singh said even though radio drama may have lost a part of its listener because of mushrooming TV channels, the perfection and modulation of a radio play still remains unmatched. He recalled his long association with radio drama and regretted that while in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, there was also a culture of having radio adaptations of scripts written by famous playwrights and story writers, in the years to follow, it yielded some of its space to the trend of getting plays professionally written for a particular slot. He lauded the efforts of the group of art connoisseurs to keep the radio drama alive and assured that in his present capacity in the Government, he will always be available to contribute for encouraging and enriching their efforts.
The enacted Radio Plays, titled `Rondu Ghori Chadeya’ (in Dogri) has been written by Rajneesh Gupta and `Poos Ki Raat’, an adaptation of Munshi Premchand’s famous short story in Hindi by Prof Rita Jitendra.
