FCS&CA intensifies market checking, constitutes 6 more teams

SRINAGAR, July 18: Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has intensified the market checking in district Srinagar and at the same time, additional enforcement teams have been constituted to constantly monitor the markets in the districts.
Officials told EXCELSIOR that a market checking team headed by Assistant Director Enforcement, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani today conducted checking at various areas in Srinagar city.
During the inspection, the team inspected various food establishments including Government-run sale centres, mutton and chicken shops, fruit and vegetable shops besides various other establishments.
The team inspected various markets within their jurisdiction, sealed three establishments and lodged three FIRs against erring shopkeepers found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.
“A fine of Rs 37600 from the erring shopkeepers and rotten vegetables and other expired items were destroyed on the spot,” officials said.
The team during its visit to various areas of Srinagar conducted a check on the rates of sacrificial goats/ sheep, especially at Eidgah and found the things in order.
Further, the consumers were urged on spot not to pay more to the rates fixed by the Govt and in case of any violation, they should register their complaint in toll-free number 18018007011.
Also, the officials told EXCELSIOR that in view Eid-ul-Azha, the additional enforcement teams for district Srinagar have been constituted with immediate effect.
“They will be responsible to conduct extensive market checking in every nook and corner of District Srinagar covering all vital market places including sale mandies of sacrificial animals,” officials said.
They said that the teams are going to be in addition to two Enforcements Squads in Srinagar working under the control of the Assistant Director Enforcement.
The officials said that all the teams constituted have been directed to furnish action taken report through their respected Assistant Directors on each day. As per the directives of the Joint Director, Administration FCS&CA, the Assistant Directors of all other 9 districts have been directed to issue similar orders in their respective districts.
