JAMMU, Oct 20: To review, implementation of various farmers welfare schemes and preparedness for Rabi 2016-17 cropping season, Financial Commi-ssioner, Agriculture Production Department, Pramod Jain, chaired a meeting at Krishi Bhawan here today.
During the meeting, Jain directed the scientists and field functionaries of the department to focus on production and productivity enhancement of crops, doubling of farmers’ income and preparation of short and long term perspective plans for boosting location specific high value crops like Basmati, Rajmash, vegetables, mushroom and honey and their marketing .
Financial Commissioner impressed upon the Chief Agriculture Officers of the Jammu Division to facilitate flow of credit to the farmers through Kissan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme. He stressed upon the officers and field functionaries to focus on attaining excellence in adoption of skills and technology and basics like extension, research and development activities.
He directed the Research Institutes and the Directorates of Agriculture and CAD to hold Pre-Rabi and Kharif Conferences and deliberate upon various problems and bottlenecks so that viable action plans are prepared to achieve full potential of growth in agriculture sector.
The Financial Commis-sioner asked the Director Extension & Director Research SKUAST-J to prepare detailed paper on Rabi 2016-17 prospects and strategy for Jammu Division. A joint mechanism was desired by them for estimation of accurate crop yields by Agriculture and Revenue Departments and the Agriculture University officials.
Earlier, Director Agriculture Jammu gave a detailed power point presentation regarding various action plans and schemes being implemented by the department.
Manisha Sharma, Director Command Area Development, Jammu, Dr. K. S. Risam, Director Extension SKUAST-J, Dr. J. P. Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu also gave appraisal of the activities of the respective departments.
The Financial Commissioner also took a separate meeting of representatives of fertilizer supplying companies wherein it was impressed upon that the requirement/demand of all the districts of the State be met in full. To ensure the timely supply of fertilizers to the four districts of Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban the companies were asked to create warehousing facilities at the Udhampur rake point immediately till then fertilizer supplies to these districts may be carried out from Jammu Rake point during the current season to avoid any crisis.
