Father, son killed in accident

KATHUA, May 23: A father-son duo traveling on a two wheeler were killed after they were crushed by a speedy dumper at village Dolian Jatta near Korepunnu in Kathua district today sparking protests by locals and family members who blocked the border road.
The duo were on their way to their house at the Nagri village on bike when a fast driven dumper bearing Registration Number JK08K8504 crushed them to death, said the eye witness.

The CCTV footage showed that after the accident driver did not bother to stop the dumper and dragged both father and son along with motorcycle up to 100 metre distance. Later, the dumper driver accelerated the speed and fled away. Both the bodies were shifted to GMC Kathua, for legal formalities.

The villagers of Korepunnu sat on protest dharna demanding strict action against the erring dumper driver who claimed nearly half dozen of lives in past one year in this area.
Ex -Sarpanch  Vinay Kumar who was leading the protest dharna expressed his grave concern over the loss of two precious lives due to negligence and arrogance of the driver. He said the dumper was overloaded and was in high speed. He demanded the dumpers should not be allowed to ply on road during day time.
He criticised the district administration, Traffic Police and local police for their failure in taking action against the drivers for over speeding.
The protestors said that number of stone crushers are functioning in Ujh river and the dumpers loaded with building material move on the road in high speed.
The deceased were identified as Vishal and his father Vias Dev residents of Nagari. The bodies of both were kept in GMC mortuary for legal process and after completing legal formalities they were handed over to family for last rites.
Later the irate family blocked the Nagari road and kept the bodies on the road in protest. They raised slogans against district administration,  Kathua police, District Mining Officer and Traffic Department for allowing overloaded dumpers to run on the road.
