JAMMU, Apr 26: Pal of gloom descended on Link Road area near Simbal Morh after the news of death of two natives (a father-son duo) working in the devastating earthquake hit Nepal, spread today.
Sardar Sujan Singh (65), son of Soba Singh and his son Parvinder Singh (32), who belonged to Link Road, Simbal Morh, Panchayat Makhanpur Gujra were killed in devastating earthquake that rocked Nepal yesterday.
The duo were running a Punjabi dhaba under the name and style of “Sher-e-Punjab” near 61.88-metre-tall Bhimsen Tower (Dharahara) at the center of Sundhara in Kathmandu, Nepal. The tower collapsed in the earthquake and fell on the dhaba, resulting into the death of Sujan Singh and his son and many others.
“The bodies of both were recovered from the debris and would reach New Delhi tomorrow. The same would be brought to Jammu by Sujan Singh’s brother Manjeet Singh and his son-in-law Gurmeet Singh”, said Harpal Singh, a neighbor of deceased.
The bodies will reach Jammu tomorrow and last rites would be performed at their ancestral village, he added.
Sujan Singh is survived by his wife Paramjeet Kour, three married daughters and a son, he said, adding that Parvinder got married around 2 years back to Balvinder Kour and was having a seven-month-old male baby from the wed-lock.
Sujan was running “Sher-e-Punjab Dhaba” in a rented building at Kathmandu for the last 40 to 45 years and has also engaged Parvinder and his another son in the business, he said, adding that Parvinder went to Kathmandu around two months back, whileas Sujan Singh’s another son was in Jammu at the time of devastating earthquake, which rocked Nepal yesterday.
“Death of Sujan Singh and his son Parvinder has come as a rude shock to the family and villagers”, he disclosed.
“Being a neighbour, I demand compensation for the deceased family and Government job to one of the family members of the deceased as the condition of the family is not economically sound”, Harpal Singh added.
It may be recalled that over 2200 people were killed in Nepal-India quake so far in the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal yesterday.
