UDHAMPUR, June 23: In a double murder case, a father and his son were axed to death by unidentified assailants in their house at Tandi Badhota in Landher area of Pancheri.
The deceased have been identified as Siraj Din alias Sarjoo (55) and his son Beenia (22), who were murdered in their house during the intervening night of June 22-23, said DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Surinder Gupta.
The incident came to light this morning and on getting information, a Police team rushed to the spot, which is more than 30 kms from Pancheri. “FSL team has lifted the finger prints and other scientific evidences while initial investigations have begun but it is too early to come to any conclusion,” said SP Mohan Lal Kaith, who reached the spot from Udhampur.
The victims were apparently murdered with some sharp edged weapon, probably an axe. Their bodies were found lying on bed in a pool of blood. Police shifted the dead bodies to PHC Landher for conducting postmortem and later the same were handed over to the family members for last rites.
Meanwhile, locals staged a protest against the alleged Police failure in solving similar murder cases in the area, where 10 such killings had taken place during the past few years.
Protesting villagers also alleged that country made illicit liquor was the main reason behind increase in crime in the area.
