Sir,
Irreparable loss of lives and grievous injuries people suffer due to frequent road accidents create a very unpleasant and painful atmosphere. Extreme greed on the part of drivers and rethargic traffic mechanism are major factors in giving birth to such tragedies. Narrow and ill maintained roads are like pimples on an ulcer in such cases. Wives, children and parents waiting for their beloveds to come are seen waiting, lamenting and rolling on grounds. But these drivers, due to sheer negligence in the shape of overloading and rash driving, destroy many families.
The element of fearlessness from the law, as generally these guys are not awarded exemplary punishments, is also a contributory factor for carelessness. Carrying 60 passengers against capacity of 24 and causing death of 9 and injuring 51 in road accidents in Rajouri (DE 22 Aug 2012) is a glaring example of violation of traffic rules. Thanks to the Govt for extending financial help to such affected families, otherwise no amount of consolations and lip services can dry tears of such families. Special consideration needs to be given while issuing licences. Age limits, qualification bar if imposed particularly for drivers who drive public vehicles, such heartbreaking scenes can be obviated.
Yours etc…
