JAMMU, Apr 28: Describing Union Minister and former J&K Chief Minister from National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah as an ideal choice for the post of President, Sikh United Front (J&K) has urged UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to nominate him as its candidate for the Presidentship.
Addressing a joint press conference of various Sikh bodies in the State, chairman of the Front S S Wazir said that secular and nationalistic credentials of Dr Abdullah are known to every one. He said all during his political career Dr Abdullah has been in forefront in projecting the Indian viewpoint on Kashmir in various fora nationally and internationally. Being a Kashmiri leader, his stance in United Nation and other international bodies was quite clear and the national integrity of India was projected by him in right prospective.
While reiterating on the secular spirit of Dr Abdullah in a Muslim majority State like J&K during his entire political span, the minorities in J&K always felt safe during his tenure as Chief Minister of the State. Mr Wazir called upon the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to sponsor Dr Abdullah as UPA candidate because of his background and personal relationship with leaders belonging to parties outside UPA including Mulayam Singh Yadav and Parkash Singh Badal.
Other Sikh leaders and social activists present in the conference included Narbir Singh from YAD, Mohinder Singh BKNSS, Paramjit Singh AISSF, Kapoor Singh Dutta, Gajan Singh, Ramnik Singh Bijral, Kulwant Singh, Mohan Singh and Devinder Singh.
