JAMMU, Aug 13: Former Minister and senior National Conference leader, Ajay Sadhotra today said BJP has totally ignored the problems of farmers, who are worst sufferers and victims of BJP rule in the Country and State.
The NC leader was addressing a public meeting at Gajansoo in Marh Assembly Constituency. He said the cost of farming has gone very high and return is very little. “The farmers are feeling disgusted and totally ignored by BJP. Farmers are facing shortage of irrigation water and electric power to which Government is not paying any attention”, he added.
The former Minister said farmers are backbone of the country as they constitute about 80% of the population of the country. Unless and until Government takes steps to increase the produce of farmers, farmers will face difficulties in sustaining and young generation will abandon farming.
Sadhotra said in J&K, BJP along with PDP ruled for more than three years but never thought of welfare of farmers. “Sense of deprivation by the BJP has housed the hearts and minds of common farmers. It is unfortunate that farmers are being forced to commit suicide, especially in BJP ruled states”, he stated.
He emphasized the need of taking remedial measures to address the problems of farmers and giving them a sense of belonging. Sadhotra demanded immediate redressal of the problems of farmers and making available water and power for irrigation purposes and subsided inputs and modern technical now how at doorsteps of the farmers.
A public meeting was also held at Trilokpur where the people put forth their demands before National Conference leader. Sadhotra assured that he will take up their problems with the Government especially the shortage of power.
