Farmers training prog on soil testing held

JAMMU, Mar 20: One day farmers training programme on soil testing under centrally sponsored scheme NAMET-ATMA was inaugurated by Director Agriculture, Jammu, HK Razdan at Krishi Bhawan, Directorate of Agriculture, here, today.
Speaking on the occasion Director Agriculture Jammu highlighted the importance of soil testing for judicious and balanced use of fertilizers. He spoke about the soil testing as an important tool to stop degradation of the soils which is an important natural resource. He stressed that acquiring complete knowledge and skills is our prime responsibility for sustainable development of Agriculture and achievement of results as per targets.
Razdan said that departmental staff is expeditiously involved in the process of sample collection and their analysis as per guidelines. The soil samples are being collected from the grid of 2.5 hectares in irrigated areas and from 10 hectares in un-irrigated areas with GPS coordinates authentication.
RK Bindroo, Agriculture Chemist, Jammu, Joint Director of Agriculture, SLUB Bulesh Zutshi, Joint Director of Agriculture (Inputs), Jammu KS Sambyal, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Central), Jammu CM Sharma, Assistant Botanist, Jammu Jagmohan Bhat and AH Salaria, ASCO (I&P) Jammu also attended the programme.
The technical session was conducted by Ashwani Kotwal, Assistant Soil Chemist, Daisy Bhan, Assistant Agriculture Chemist, Jammu, Neeraj Rajwal, Research Assistant, Om Singh, Research Assistant, Dr Tarika Sharma, AEA and Dr Vibhu Kapoor, AEA of Soil Testing Lab, Jammu.
The Estates Wing of the Directorate of Agriculture in collaboration with Social Forestry launched the plantation drive in the premises of the Agriculture Complex with the involvement of different sections of the Directorate of Agriculture. About 400 medicinal and ornamental plants have been planted with the start of the drive by the plantation by the Director Agriculture HK Razdan, Joint Director of Agriculture, SLUB Bulesh Zutshi and Joint Director of Agriculture (Inputs) KS Sambyal.
On the occasion, Sandeep Dogra, SCA, I&P was also present.
