Farmers training prog on sustainable agriculture concludes

JAMMU, Dec 21: Three days training programme under Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) on Sustainable Agriculture Cropping Systems  concluded at Krishi Bhawan, Directorate of Agriculture, here, today.
Farmers from Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Ramban, Udhampur and Jammu actively participated in the training on the 2nd and 3rd day of the programme.
Interacting with the farmers during the concluding session, Director Agriculture, Jammu Dr. S. S. Jamwal advised the farmers to take the benefit of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) like NMSA, MIDH etc which envisages to increase production in agriculture and horticulture on a sustainable basis.
He said that the utilization of various resources like Soil, Water, Fertilizers, Inputs, machinery etc. should be optimal and judicious. He impressed upon the trainees to adopt the concept of area expansion through crop diversification by giving due importance to crops like pulses which need less water.
He said that sustainability in agriculture can be achieved through an integrated approach involving increase of Seed Replacement Rate (SRR), mechanization, use of sprinkler & drip irrigation systems, transfer of technology and precision farming on a mission mode. He stressed on the need for adoption of various water conservation techniques and selection of crops to save each drop of water.
Dr. B. C. Sharma, Professor & Dr. A. P. Singh, Associate Professor from Division of Agronomy, Dr. Sarbjeet Kour, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) SKUAST-J presented their elaborate technical lectures on respective areas of sustainable farming through Power Point Presentations.
K. K. Sharma, SMS (I/C CSS) gave presentations on Parampraghat Krishi and Javik Kheti.  A. K. Makhnotra, Programme Officer spoke on balanced application of nutrients and various green manuring crops.
R. K. Hiteshi, SMS (RL),   Ravi Raman Raina, AEO and  O. P. Sharma, AEO also attended the programme.
C. M. Sharma, Deputy Director (Central), Jammu presented the vote of thanks.
