KATHUA, Nov 29: The farmers of Kathua held a protest demonstration against the State Government for its discriminatory policy towards the farmers of Jammu region.
The farmers led by Tarsem Kumar protested in front of DC Office Kathua and raised slogans in favour of their genuine demands. While addressing Tarsem Lal, Pawan Kumar and Karan Singh alleged that the farmers of Kathua , Samba and Jammu are facing problems in selling the Paddy on genuine rates .
Farmers said they want to sell the paddy out of State but State Government is charging Toll Tax of Rs 100 per quintal from a farmer to export the paddy to Punjab and other states. They pointed out that the poor farmers are compelled to sell the paddy in lowest rates under such circumstances. If the Kashmiri farmers are given full waiver on Toll Tax on fruits and other produces to export them why not Jammu farmers, they asked?.
“Why Government is charging Toll Tax from Jammu province farmers on Paddy export”, they asked. The Government is discriminating with farmers of Kathua, Samba and Jammu and it is adopting double policy in the State. They demanded the waiver off on Toll Tax on paddy export so that farmers may get relief of unwanted taxes levied on poor farmers.
